Lectio Divina on ( 1 Corinthians 14 : 13 – 17 )   Leave a comment

Introduction

This series is my Lectio Divina, or Divine Reading series, in this series I am going to present to you the reader my experiences with applying Lectio Divina to certain scripture excerpts. Lectio Divina is called Divine Reading for a reason; for it is more contemplative then the typical and casual reading that most people do in a busy day. Divine Reading is meant to speak to your whole being rather than solely the intellectual part of your being. Certain excerpts are large, so they were broken up into smaller pieces to respect the key contemplative aspect of this ancient practice; these are the notes which I made in light of each Lectio Divina reading. I used the Orthodox Study Bible for Reading and for its commentary on scriptural entries in order to begin the first and move into the second part of the process. Read the rest of this entry »

Creativity Expression   Leave a comment

My Creativity was recorded in this book which I bought while at Barnes and Nobles one day:

Click on the Image to buy from Barnes and Nobles

This 8″ x 11″ Sketchbook is a very good size for jotting down ideas and doing the exercises founded in the books I mentioned in the previous post. The Format I used for the Book sought to maximize creative space with as little detailed description as possible, all that is contained in the Upper Left Corner is:

Title
Part #, Chapter #
Aim/Project Undertaken
Date

Brief Description of The Techniques The Chapter Talks About

I than dedicate a certain number of pages for the Chapter at hand that will last for the week. I know that in the First Book, ThinkerToys there are in total 39 Chapters each one for 7 Days worth of work will equal to 273 Pages as a Minimum, therefore, I know I will need at least 2 Sketchbooks to complete this particular book, since one Sketchbook has 192 Pages. I will probably need about 5 Sketchbooks to complete all 3 books that I mentioned in the previous section, depending on work intensity.

Update: Site Alterations 1   1 comment

In light of my previous post regarding a life of productivity and creativeness I am going to create a new category in the Objectives called: “Creative Expression” this is something I intend to share with the viewer in order to show that the Life of a Practicing Christian is not one of Monotony and Obsessive Solemnity but rather Spontaneity, Creativity, and Inspiration. Much of my writings done under this section will be rooted in the work I do with the help and inspiration of: Thinkertoys, Creative Thinkering, and The Accidental Creative.

The fruits of anything under this category of writing are meant to be share with everyone, so that way they too may take part in inspiration and and creativity, in truth most good ideas and insights typically do derive from previous insights as well, I tend to hold to the view that, “When two or more independent insights cross a new philosophy is born.” However, I would add an addendum, that when 2 or more independent creative ideas come together in a seemingly effortless and anticipatory way, an even greater creation is called into existence. Santa Clause Is REAL!   Leave a comment

Introduction

Click The Icon of St. Nicholas of Myra To Be Taken to Source Page

It’s Christmas Eve, and Santa is coming to town! The title as you may know seems very naive and ignoramus of me, but after the end of the post you will see that I am quite sane, aware and mature in pointing out the existence of Santa Clause. The article is broken up into two parts, the first is concerns the Origins of Santa and the second half talks about the Psychology of the Santa Legend. In the end you will see that Santa Clause is not so much a myth, but a historical legend that has been adopted by many in different places and times. Read the rest of this entry »

On George Carlin: Grumpy Old Cynic or Truth-Teller   Leave a comment

Introduction

In my many interactions with some people in my social network, I see videos of the late George Carlin being as always provocative and controversial in his jokes. George Carlin’s comedic style was always multi-faceted but it was largely Dark, Insulting and Sarcastic even Satirical geared toward predominantly toward 2 topics that in America is often socially unacceptable to talk about: Religion and Politics. When I was a child I was exposed to him from the childhood TV Show Thomas the Tank Engine and again in my teenage years in my own spiritual search and by my personal, local and smaller social network. I will confess that when it comes to his Religion jokes I can find some humor in them, although he paints a broad stroke on ALL religion, I like to think that he mocks the popular understandings of religion (aka the various manifestations of Fundamentalism) that most people have rather than the deeper realities and wisdom of Religion itself. I find a high degree of agreement with George Carlin however, when it comes to his choice of political philosophy. In this post I will be writing about my views on George Carlin in more detail, only after that to tie George Carlin’s Cynical sense of humor back over to Christ for I believe that reconciliation must be had between 2 forces that seem irreconcilable. Following this I will discuss my own personal battle with Cynicism, Despair and Frustration in life. Read the rest of this entry »

The Chaos That Is Black Friday: What It Represents and The Meaning of the Holiday Season   Leave a comment

Introduction

Its that time of the year again folks! The Turkey is eaten and hopefully you’ll have the strength to overcome that Post-Thanksgiving Lethargy in order to wake up early to shop in America’s Most Chaotic Shopping Season. On second thought, I’d rather see you sleeping restfully at home than waking up at absurd hours in the morning to buy things in a store at reduced prices. Black Friday is a day that really shows how morally bankrupt our culture has become, its the best day to examine the psycho-spiritual state of the nation. I know that its the holiday season and we want to buy things for our loved ones and I intend to offer some practical advice on that as well, but we really need to re-examine the meaning of the Holidays. Happy Thanksgiving!   Leave a comment

Wishing everyone a very Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving. Aside from the Food and the Family and Friends who will be around you on this day, I hope you are able to be in a mode of Gratitude for something today. It would be fitting to speak on the Virtue of Gratitude today, but briefly, for I am sure you are anxious to get to that Turkey sooner rather then later. Gratitude as described by the website Regnum Christi as, “the virtue that makes us aware of the gifts we receive each day and appreciative of the generosity of the giver. It moves our will to respond to these gifts by developing them, using them well, and putting them at the service of others.” Read the rest of this entry »
